Lighting Up the Future: Thursday Night Lights Returns for the 2025 Season

Fall in Omaha means crisp air, changing leaves, and, of course, football. Whether you’re tailgating with neighbors or rallying under stadium lights, there’s something special about game nights in our community. And while Friday night rivalries will always have a place in our hearts, Thursday Night Lights is about something even bigger.

At Building Omaha, we see these games as matchups on the field and as opportunities to support students, strengthen schools, and invest in the future of our city. As the 2025 season kicks off, we’re proud to continue lighting up more than just the scoreboard.

What Is Thursday Night Lights?

Thursday Night Lights started as a community-driven series to shine a spotlight—literally—on local high school football. But it quickly became so much more than a fun, fall weekly sporting event. It became a platform for celebrating school spirit, showcasing young talent, and bringing the Omaha community together.

Building Omaha has been part of the effort from day one. We’ve cheered from the stands, and we’ve sponsored teams. We’ve donated infrastructure upgrades, like LED scoreboards and improved field lighting, and we’ve worked side by side with schools to ensure these events are safe, accessible, and unforgettable.

We don’t do it to make headlines. We do it because this work fits right into our mission of building careers, relationships, and pride here in our hometown.

More Than a Game: Powering Student Success

On the surface, Thursday Night Lights is about football. However, at its core it’s really about what happens when the stadium lights go out and students start thinking about what their future after high school will look like.

Through partnerships with the OPS Career Center, classroom visits, and hands-on experiences that include job shadowing and internships, Building Omaha is opening doors for students who may never have considered a career in the electrical field.

Thanks to the generosity of our local contractors and union members, we’ve helped provide:

  • Mentorship from experienced tradespeople
  • Safety checks and improvements for school facilities
  • Access to tools, resources, and guidance to explore careers

Sports teach grit, discipline, and teamwork. These are the same qualities that make a great electrician. Thursday Night Lights is the perfect bridge between the field and the future.

Why the Trades Belong on the Field (and Off It)

Whether you’re throwing a touchdown pass or watching from the bleachers, the lessons learned at these games matter. Leadership. Communication. Showing up. Putting in the work. These are the building blocks of both successful athletes and successful tradespeople.

Our message to students is simple: There’s a place for you in Omaha’s electrical industry, and we’re here to help you pursue this rewarding career.

Parents and educators, talk to your kids and students about the trades. Invite them to ask questions. Help them explore hands-on careers that offer stability, purpose, and pride.
