On any given Thursday night in Omaha, there’s a lot happening at once. Homework gets finished a little faster, jerseys get pulled on, and families find their way to the stands. Under those stadium lights, you’ll see big plays and plenty of school pride. And you’ll also see something that lasts far beyond the final score.
That’s because Thursday Night Lights is about recognizing stand-out students who are putting in the work everywhere it counts. Week after week, it shines a spotlight on young leaders who balance academics, athletics, and community involvement to prove that success isn’t merely measured in yards gained or points score; it’s evaluated in effort, commitment, and character.
Each week during the season:
Those selected are honored during the weekly IBEW/NECA Thursday Night Lights broadcast, where they:
It’s their moment to shine and remind us that hard work pays off in more ways than one.

At the end of the season, all Scholar-Athlete of the Week honorees become eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. A panel of judges selects one standout student who receives a $3,000 scholarship to support their next step after high school.
The scholarship can be used for:

We’re proud to announce that the 2025 Scholar-Athlete of the Year is Alex Uchtman, wide receiver at Elkhorn North. Alex exemplifies what Thursday Night Lights is all about—commitment, discipline, and a drive to succeed both academically and athletically. Congratulations, Alex!
Programs like Thursday Night Lights remind us that when we invest in students like Alex, we’re investing in the future of Omaha.
That’s a win for everyone.
When Alex was announced as the Building Omaha Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the moment carried far more weight than a title.
“It means the world,” Alex shared. “I’m proud that I get to represent my school and my community.”
He credited Elkhorn North High School for helping shape who he is today, both on and off the field. “Elkhorn does a great job of preparing their students academically and athletically. They’ve pushed me to be where I am today, and I definitely wouldn’t be here without the support of everyone around me.”
Those who know Alex best say that drive shows up everywhere. Whether it’s Thursday Night Lights or weekday classrooms, he’s always in pursuit of excellence. He holds himself to a high standard, works incredibly hard, and consistently pushes himself to be better… not just as an athlete, but as a student and a leader.
That mindset is exactly what Thursday Night Lights was built to celebrate, and why Building Omaha is a proud sponsor.
